Alia Moubayed is Managing Director covering economics and fixed income strategy for MENA & CIS countries.
She was the Director of the Geo-economics and Strategy Program at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (2017-18), after spending 9 years as MENA Chief Economist at Barclays bank (2008-2017) focusing on economics and geopolitics of the Middle East.
Before that, she worked as senior economist at the World Bank (2002-2008). She also held various research and policy responsibilities in Lebanon (1994-2002) including as senior economist at the Banque du Liban; as advisor to the Minister of Economy and Trade, and as Managing
Director of the Economic and Social Fund for Development at the Council for Development and Reconstruction.
Ms. Moubayed publishes regular analysis about the economics of the MENA region and her commentary has featured in the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, CNN, Bloomberg, CNBC, Sky News, the BBC, Al Arabiya, CNBC Arabia, Sky News, and other outlets.
