Access for Women in Energy Newsletter – June 2016

The June 2016 edition of Access for Women in Energy Newsletter includes recent press articles related to women and their contribution to the energy sector worldwide. At the fifth annual Clean Energy Education & Empowerment (C3E) Women in Clean Energy Symposium, which took place on June 4, nine distinguished women across multiple disciplines were honored for outstanding leadership and accomplishments in clean energy.

However, a lot more effort is needed to increase women’s role in energy. In the late 1990s, more than a third of people working in energy jobs in the United illegal buy accutane online States were women, while today it’s less than 18 percent. To help change that – and not just at home – the US-based Clinton Climate Initiative has launched a project, focused on the Caribbean, called the Women in Island Energy Leadership Network.

The U.S. energy sector accounts for 83.6 percent of the country’s carbon emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, so tackling climate change effectively requires their participation. Some experts, though, worry the lack of diversity in their leadership is hindering that shift.
