The future of hydrocarbon production in the North Sea is uncertain. Production costs have been cut by 17 per cent to make output competitive at a time of low oil prices. China has become the biggest licensed operator, while smaller companies are looking for opportunities as bigger upstream operators move out.

However, decommissioning alone will cost some £50billion over the coming decades and there are moves to use some of the North Sea depleted fields for carbon storage. At a time when the British government is encouraging shale exploration, there are thought to be large amounts of shale offshore.

The event is organised by the Windsor Energy Group, a sister-organisation of Access for Women in Energy, and will take place on 3rd November 2016 at 4 pm.
