The New York University (NYU) Abu Dhabi and University of Oslo organised a joint conference on ‘OPEC and the Global Energy Order from its Origins to the Present Time’ in Abu Dhabi, from 18-20 April 2017.
The conference explored the cooperation among the world largest oil exporters, their relations to non-OPEC countries, to international oil companies and to key consuming countries. It tried to shed light on the role that OPEC has played in the international history of the 20th century, as well as on the challenges the organization is facing with the rise of the climate change debate and the pressures to move toward a less carbon-dependent economy.
Dr Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, presented her latest study entitled ‘The Changing Relationship Between OPEC Countries and IOCs: The Dynamics of Bargaining Power in an Evolving Market’, a paper that she co-authored with Francesco Petrini (University of Padua).
