KRG-Baghdad: Is a revenue-sharing agreement on the horizon?

In an interview given to Wil Crisp from MEED, Dr Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, comments on the latest developments between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the Government of Baghdad following the military clashes between the two, with the latter seizing the Kirkuk oilfields, and the Kurdish independence referendum.

According to Dr Nakhle, a revenue-sharing agreement may still be within reach despite the major differences and high level of mistrust between the KRG and Baghdad. The KRG’s finances are not in good shape and their political parties are increasingly divided, weakening their bargaining position. She also questioned the ability of Iraq to handle an increase in exports from the South where bottlenecks are likely to become more visible, and investment is surely needed to improve the reliability of the country’s export infrastructure.
