Dr Carole Nakhle explains that the increase in oil prices in response to such attacks was normal given the strait’s importance to global oil trade. However, the increase remains modest and market fundamentals do not support a substantial increase in prices. Dr Nakhle expects prices to decrease once the market realises that supplies remain plentiful.
