Anton Mifsud-Bonnici’s focus is on the relationship of the affordable, secure and sustainable energy transition of society with strategic minerals and natural resources.
Anton advises CEOs on the non-technical risk management relating to energy, transition minerals and renewables, with a deep understanding of good governance of the energy value chains. His experience entails public and government affairs, advocacy, stakeholder management, communications & crisis management, and relationship building in oil, gas, transition mining and renewable energy. He has extensive experience in the field of environmental and social management and permitting for transition minerals, renewable and green hydrogen & derivatives.
Anton is a Mediterranean EU-based business advocate. He currently also advises Adani New Industries Limited in Europe. Adani is a large infrastructure Indian and international conglomerate in solar manufacturing, wind turbine manufacturing, solar and wind power development, power transmission, port operations, thermal power production, pump storage, battery storage, civil nuclear energy, cement manufacturer, gas distributor, realty, defence & aerospace, and is also at the forefront of developing a robust and scalable green hydrogen supply chain. Anton is part of the teaching faculty of the business & human rights masters course offered by the University of Bergen, Norway.
Early in his career Anton co-authored the 1992 Rio Declaration on Environment and Development. And he saved many lives in conflict and genocide zones in Europe and Africa. At the moment his non-exec roles include Blessed Investments and Latitude Five. Anton is pro bono advisor to civil society organisations dedicated to good governance, gender equity and human rights in Mozambique, Sierra Leone, DRC, Bosnia and Yemen. He is a graduate of the University of Malta and of Columbia University in New York City.
Anton has worked with or advised the Governments of Albania and Malta, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, PwC, BP, TNK-BP, Rumaila Oil Company, Trans Adriatic Pipeline, Imerys, Total Energies, McDonalds, Acacia/ Barrick, VAALCO, Vedanta, De Beers, NorilskNickel, FreeportMcMoran, L’Oreal, Vale Base Metals, AngloGoldAshanti and others over three decades in emerging and developing economies on projects and sites in Albania, Bosnia, Croatia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Greece, Italy, Iraq, Kenya, Libya, Malta, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Russian Federation, Serbia, Tanzania and Zambia. Anton also teaches high risk at the University of Bergen, Norway.
Early in his career Anton, drafted the 1992 Rio Declaration on Environment and Development and later saved many lives in conflict zones. He serves on the international advisory board of a professional services firm in the Western Balkans, and on the advisory boards of three women’s rights NGOs in Sierra Leone, DRC, Bosnia and Yemen.
He is a graduate of the University of Malta and of Columbia University. He studied law, public and international affairs. He functions in English, French, Italian, Russian, Arabic and his native Maltese.
