Dr. Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, moderated a strategic discussion with Dr Georg Stamatelopoulos, Chairman and CEO of EnBW, at ADIPEC 2026. The session, titled LNG, Renewables and Green Molecules: Balancing Electrification, Energy Security and Resilience, explored Germany’s evolving energy landscape, the importance of energy security and the future of hydrogen. Dr Nakhle highlighted Germany’s remarkable energy transformation following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which saw the country rapidly reduce its dependence on Russian gas. Dr Stamatelopoulos outlined EnBW’s plans to invest €50 billion by 2030, with a focus on electricity grids, generation and customer activities.

The discussion also examined the challenges of balancing decarbonisation, energy affordability and security of supply, alongside the role of electricity networks, energy storage and emerging technologies. Turning to hydrogen and green ammonia, Dr Nakhle observed that the initial enthusiasm surrounding these technologies may have been excessive, suggesting that the sector is now entering a more pragmatic phase of development.
