The arrest of Maduro and Venezuelan oil

Dr. Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, was featured in Kathimerini, a leading Greek news platform, in an article examining what the arrest of Nicolás Maduro could mean for Venezuela’s oil outlook and for global markets.

She highlighted that expectations of a rapid recovery in Venezuelan oil production are not justified, as the country has experienced one of the most severe and prolonged production collapses on record and is currently producing only a fraction of its geological potential. She noted that investment and technology transfer would help, but the gap cannot be closed within a reasonable timeframe.

Dr. Nakhle also pointed to a best case scenario where, if the required investment materialises, Venezuela’s oil production and exports could rise gradually over time, and could ultimately surpass its previous production peak recorded in 1970, but only over a long horizon.
