Beyond the strait, Iranian drone attacks threaten regional energy infrastructure

Dr. Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, spoke to Alhurra in an article by Alexis Thomas and Dalshad Hussein examining how attacks on pipelines and other critical energy assets are reshaping regional energy security. Dr Nakhle highlighted that Gulf countries have invested substantially in protecting critical energy infrastructure, but complete protection is unrealistic, particularly for pipelines that stretch across hundreds of kilometers.

She therefore stressed the need for regional energy strategies to focus not only on defense, but also on strengthening the resilience of pipeline networks and critical infrastructure. The growing exposure of energy assets to disruption reinforces the importance of designing systems that can withstand, adapt to and recover from attacks while maintaining continuity of supply.
