Pace of oil supply recovery in focus amid US-Iran deal

In an article published by Anadolu Agency, Dr. Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, shared her views on the outlook for oil supply recovery following the latest agreement between the United States and Iran. While the deal has reinforced expectations that shipments through the Strait of Hormuz could resume, Dr. Nakhle cautioned that reopening the waterway should not be confused with a full return to normal market conditions.

Dr. Nakhle explained that the speed of recovery will depend on the nature of the disruption. If the main issue has been shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, exports could resume relatively quickly once maritime traffic and insurance coverage are restored. However, a full return to previous export volumes would depend on whether production and export infrastructure have suffered damage, as well as how quickly shipowners, insurers and traders regain confidence in the security environment.

She also noted that Gulf Arab producers are generally better positioned than Iran to accelerate recovery, supported by stronger financial resources and better access to technology, while Iran continues to face the constraints of sanctions. In her view, confidence remains critical: shipping routes can reopen quickly, but restoring trust among market participants often takes longer. This means that even if political progress holds, the recovery in oil flows is likely to remain gradual and uneven.
