Crystol Energy’s annual Advisory Board Roundtable Lunch brought together members of its Advisory Board, long-standing friends of the firm and invited guests from across the energy, financial and policy communities for a wide-ranging discussion on the geopolitical, economic and energy challenges shaping today’s world.
Chaired by Lord Howell, the gathering provided an opportunity for participants from diverse professional backgrounds to exchange views, challenge assumptions and explore the implications of rapidly evolving global developments in an open, collegial and intellectually stimulating setting.
This year’s roundtable could not have been more timely. Against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions and growing uncertainty across global markets, discussions focused on developments in the Middle East and their implications for regional geopolitics, trade flows, economic prospects and investment sentiment.
Participants also examined the potential consequences for global growth, inflation, energy prices and the future direction of energy transition policies.
The conversation extended beyond the Middle East to address the outlook for Russia’s energy sector, the evolving relationship between China and Russia, the direction of US foreign and energy policy, Europe’s changing role in the international system, and emerging investment trends across the energy sector and the wider economy.
The roundtable featured contributions from distinguished guest speakers including Paul Horsnell, Chairman of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies; Chris Weafer, CEO of Macro Advisory; Alia Moubayed, Managing Director, Fixed Income Strategy at Jefferies and Fabrício Sousa, President of Worley Consulting and Technology Solutions.
They were joined by members of Crystol Energy’s Advisory Board, including Christof Rühl, Dan Witt, Ieda Gomes, Peter van Leeuwen and Anton Mifsud Bonnici, as well as invited guests Paul Bramley, CEO of Serena Oil; Nasser Salem, Libya specialist; Gavin Towers, Chair of the Industry Group of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers; and Elena Oderstone, former Master of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers.
Beyond the issues discussed, the roundtable reflected something that has become increasingly important to Crystol Energy over the years: the value of bringing together experienced voices from different sectors, disciplines and geographies. The lunch provided not only an opportunity for rigorous debate, but also a welcome chance for colleagues and friends to reconnect, exchange perspectives and strengthen relationships built over many years across the global energy community.
At a time when geopolitical developments, market dynamics and policy decisions are becoming ever more interconnected, the ability to foster informed dialogue across industries and regions is more important than ever. The quality of the discussion reflected not only the calibre of the participants around the table, but also the diversity of perspectives they brought – from energy executives and investors to economists, policymakers and geopolitical specialists.
Crystol Energy remains committed to creating platforms where ideas can be exchanged openly, expertise can be shared, and meaningful conversations can contribute to a deeper understanding of the forces shaping the future of energy. We are grateful to all those who joined us and contributed to what was a truly engaging and thought-provoking afternoon.
