At the opening ceremony of the EAGE Annual Conference and Exhibition 2026 in Aberdeen, Crystol Energy CEO Dr Carole Nakhle moderated a fireside conversation with Ariel Flores, Senior Vice President, Subsurface at bp.
The discussion explored some of the most pressing issues facing the energy industry today, from geopolitical uncertainty and investment priorities to technological innovation, talent development and the future competitiveness of the sector.

Investing in people remains as essential as investing in infrastructure and technology.
The discussion further emphasised the importance of collaboration. While competition among companies continues to intensify, addressing complex challenges such as energy security, affordability and sustainability requires cooperation across the wider energy ecosystem. Partnerships between industry, governments, academic institutions and technology providers will continue to play a vital role in shaping future energy systems.
The discussion reinforced a principle that lies at the heart of Crystol Energy’s work: sustainable energy development requires more than resources and technology. It requires informed decision-making, long-term thinking, and constructive collaboration among industry, governments and wider stakeholders. As the energy landscape becomes increasingly complex, these fundamentals will become more important, not less.
