Dr Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, joined an Energy Connects Live discussion at Gastech 2026 to examine how geopolitical disruption is reshaping energy security, the resilience of global LNG markets and the investment decisions facing the industry.
Key takeaways from the discussion:
Global energy markets have shown greater resilience to recent disruptions, with significant supply volumes affected without prices reaching the levels experienced during the 2022 energy crisis.
Market resilience does not mean an absence of volatility or disruption, but rather reflects how quickly markets can respond and adapt when shocks occur.
Greater resilience can also have geopolitical implications, as a more manageable economic impact from energy disruptions may reduce the pressure on governments to resolve underlying conflicts.
Diversification remains fundamental to energy security, although the appropriate mix of suppliers and alternatives will depend on the maturity and circumstances of individual markets.
Advances in relatively inexpensive technologies such as drones are creating new risks for major energy infrastructure, making physical security an increasingly important consideration alongside infrastructure investment.
LNG investment decisions should look beyond current geopolitical tensions, as not every announced project will reach final investment decision and assets need to remain viable over several decades.
The session also featured Dr. Smith Sangiambut, Managing Director and Partner at BCG, and Anne Sophie Corbeau, Global Research Scholar at Columbia Center on Global Energy Policy and was moderated by Chiranjib Sengupta of Energy Connects.
