In an interview to France 24 TV Station on 12 December 2020, Dr Carole Nakhle, CEO of Crystol Energy, commented on the potential GCC reconciliation, particularly between Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Dr Nakhle argued that should the reconciliation materialise in the near future, it wouldn’t be because of Qatar meeting its neighbours’ conditions demanded since the rift started in 2017, but because of external factors including the change in US leadership and potential new policy direction towards the Middle East.
As for Brexit and both the EU and the UK warning of a no-deal scenario, she interpreted such warnings as a negotiation strategy, and she remained hopeful that a trade deal would be reached before the end of the year.
Finally, while a mass vaccination will support global economic outlook, Covid-19 has caused some structural damages that will take time to be repaired.
